Backstory

The mansion was always alive with activity. Grandmothers sat on the thinnai (verandah), rolling betel leaves while discussing the latest gossip. Servants bustled about, polishing brass lamps and sweeping the intricate tiled floors. At dusk, the temple bells rang, signaling the time for evening prayers, where even Chittu was forced to sit still (at least for a few minutes!).

On Sundays, the entire family gathered in the kolam-decorated courtyard to listen to old Carnatic records on their H.M.V gramophone. Sometimes, when Appa was in a good mood, he’d allow Rangan to switch to the latest Tamil cinema songs, which he insisted were “corrupting the youth” while still tapping his foot to the beat.
