Backstory

Lovedale isn’t just a station ,it’s a feeling. Built during the British era, it lies along the Nilgiri Mountain Railway line, a UNESCO World Heritage site. At 7,200 feet above sea level, Lovedale is one of the highest railway stations in the country and perhaps one of the quietest too.

Here, the train slows to a gentle crawl. Passengers lean out to feel the mountain air, schoolchildren wave, and mist rolls in as if on cue. It’s a place where time pauses.

This sculpture is a tribute to that pause , to the echo of whistles in the valley, to handwritten station signs, and to the romance of slow travel through the hills.
