Backstory

Along the coastlines of India, every dawn begins the same way for thousands of fishing families with a push. The boats are heavy, the surf is cold, and the sea makes no promises. Yet the men go, together, because they always have. This is not heroism by their own telling. It is simply what is done.

The Fisherman's Saga captures that unremarkable, extraordinary moment in miniature. Five figures, each distinct their postures, their effort, their clothing working in unison on a weathered country boat, nets coiled inside, waves breaking at their feet. We created this piece as a tribute to the coastal communities whose labour quietly sustains so much of Indian life, and as a symbol for anyone who understands what it means to begin something without the comfort of knowing how it ends.
