Panchavadyam, literally meaning “an orchestra of five instruments,” is one of Kerala’s most celebrated temple art forms. This traditional ensemble brings together the timila, maddalam, ilathalam, idakka, and the wind instrument, kombu.
The performance begins with three long blows of a conch. From the first beat to the last, the timila leads the ensemble as the other instruments respond and layer into the rhythm, gradually building in pace and intensity.
This set of five figurines captures that rising energy - five artists, five instruments, and one powerful sound that has echoed through Kerala’s temple grounds for generations.
