Backstory

Pulikali, or "Dance of the Tigers," is a vibrant folk art performed during Onam celebrations in Thrissur, Kerala. With origins dating back over 200 years to Maharaja Rama Varma Sakthan Thampuran of Cochin, it has become one of Onam's most iconic traditions. Performers transform their bodies into fierce tigers through hours of body painting, then dance through the streets to the beat of traditional percussion - a spectacle that draws thousands of spectators every year.
This set captures the raw theatricality of the tradition, honoring the artists who spend hours in body paint to bring this beloved folk performance to life, generation after generation.
